Welcome to Kindergarten 2019
We look forward to
welcoming new Kindergarten students in
September 2019.
Kindergarten
registration begins on Monday, January 14th, 2019. Registration will
start at 9:00 am in the Panorama Room of the Edgemont Community Centre. Please watch for direction signs by the front
doors of the school. Thereafter,
registration will be ongoing during regular school office hours.
We
anticipate that we will be able to accommodate all Kindergarten students who
live within the Edgemont community.
To
register your child for Kindergarten, please be aware of the following:

We
are only able to accept registrations for students who LIVE in
Edgemont. We do not take any
registrations for students who live outside of the community.
·
Your
child must turn 5 years of age by March 1 of their Kindergarten school year to
register for Kindergarten in the Calgary Board of Education.
·
Registration
forms can be downloaded from the CBE website at http://cbe.ab.ca/registration/registration/Pages/Kindergarten-to-Grade-9.aspx or we will provide registration
forms for you to fill out when you arrive at the school.
·
Only
parents or legal guardians may register a child. We cannot accept registration information
from other family members or friends, under any circumstances.
·
Bring:
o
proof of your child’s name, date of birth and
citizenship. Only the following documents can be accepted: birth certificate,
passport, record of landing or Canadian Citizenship Certificate.
o
2
pieces of identification demonstrating residency in Edgemont. One has to be
government issued picture ID such as an Alberta Driver’s License. The second
piece should be a government issued document such as income tax, child tax
credit, property tax assessment or some other form of municipal or federal mail
that has your name and address on it.

At
Edgemont School we offer half day Kindergarten classes and parents may express
a preference for either the AM or PM program.
The academic content of both programs is the same. The process for determining who attends which
program is as follows:
o
First: Students who live in the bus zones are
designated to AM or PM depending on where they live. Students who live west and south of the
escarpment are designated for the AM and students who live north and east of
the escarpment are designated for the PM. A map will be available for viewing
during registration.
o
Second: Once all of the bus students are placed in
the designated classes, parent preference will be considered. If we have more interest in one of the
programs than we have spaces available, placement will be determined by a
draw.
§ Please note that there is no need to
line up hours before the registration process opens at 9:00 as all families
will have an opportunity for am or pm placement.
o
Third: Parents will be notified of the AM or PM placement
by the end of April 2019.

Parents
and new Kindergarten students are invited to “Welcome to Kindergarten” on Thursday,
June 6, 2019. We will email out more
information with your AM/PM placement letter, but please set aside that date
now.
